Sezgin is singer-songwriter, academic, writer and teaching artist based in Munich, Germany. He holds a PhD in Music Education from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. He studied Music Education and Singing in Turkey, Hungary and Germany. During his studies he improved his skills in singing, piano, classical guitar, flute and music theory. He sang with the musical company Ladies and Gentlemen Istanbul from Turkey, as a part of which he performed with various artists, such as Sezen Aksu, Sertab Erener, Müslüm Gürses and Alessandro Safina. He was involved in international projects in different countries, such as in Hungary, Spain, Denmark, France, Estonia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Latvia. In 2010 he won a scholarship to be a music teacher in Munich, which soon after became his home. In 2015 he started a folk music project Gemiler Giresun’e / Schiffe nach Giresun, where he and the pianist Maharani Chakrabarti interpreted folk songs from different parts of Turkey. He released his debut album Ümitvâr (Hopeful) in 2018, which includes 4 songs, that are all written by Sezgin. Also in 2018 his PhD thesis was published as a book with the title Bilingualism and Music Education: A Turkish-German Perspective. Sezgin and the musical/visual artist Stas Mishchenko from Ukraine formed an indie-electronic music band, called Squareplatz. The band started releasing its songs in 2019. Same year, he started hosting the podcast Yine Yeni Yeniden 90’lar with Dr. İlker Hepkaner. They analyse and talk about the 90s Turkish pop culture through the lens of feminism and queer theories. Sezgin also formed his own company music4words, where he promotes the benefits of music education for multilingualism and learning languages. He currently resides in Munich, Germany.
