
Sezgin Inceel is a versatile singer-songwriter, author, music education researcher, and academic based in Munich. After studying music with a focus on singing in Istanbul, he moved to Germany, where he launched his professional music career. His unique musical style blends acoustic and electronic elements, creating a sound that is both gentle and captivating. Inceel writes and produces his music both as a solo artist and as part of the electro-duo Squareplatz, together with Stas Mi. Throughout his musical career, he has been involved in numerous projects, given solo concerts, and had the privilege of performing alongside renowned artists such as Sezen Aksu, Sertab Erener, Ferhat Göçer, and Alessandro Safina, and recorded with Müslüm Gürses as part of the musical company Ladies and Gentlemen Istanbul.
Inceel holds a PhD in Music Education, with a dissertation exploring the connection between music and multilingual language acquisition. His dissertation was published as a book titled Bilingualism and Music Education: A Turkish-German Perspective in 2018. He continues his academic work at the Eichstätt University, where he serves as a lecturer and researcher. His research focuses on bi- and multilingualism, gender studies, and intersectionality within the context of music education, as well as community music and inter- and transcultural music education.
As an author, Inceel provides insightful perspectives on music and education, contributing to the broader discourse in his field. He has written for blogs and magazines such as Kaos GL, Velvele, Mangal Media, and 5Harfliler, covering themes of migration, language, culture, and gender. He has delivered talks and workshops, including a keynote at the University Mozarteum and the Mother Tongues Festival in Dublin. Additionally, he founded the platform Music4Words to make knowledge about music, multilingualism, and intersectionality more accessible to wider audiences.
In addition to his academic and musical pursuits, Inceel is the co-host, alongside Dr. İlker Hepkaner, of Yine Yeni Yeniden 90’lar (90s all over again) a podcast that offers a queer feminist analysis of 1990s Turkish pop music. The podcast has been recognized for its impact, earning the Best Music Podcast award from the renowned Turkish radio station Power FM and a nomination for the Best Podcast at the Radyo Boğaziçi Müzik Ödülleri. In 2024, İlker Hepkaner and Sezgin Inceel expanded their podcast Yine Yeni Yeniden 90’lar into a book, published by the acclaimed publishing house Ayrıntı. Building on the themes explored in the podcast, the book offers an in-depth analysis of 1990s Turkish pop culture through a queer feminist lens, exploring themes such as “evil” women, protest songs and queer moments of the 90s.
His latest album, Kaktüs, Kedi vs., released in 2025, further highlights his artistic evolution and distinctive sound.
